Sunnundalu or Urad Dal Ladoo are prepared during festivals like Diwali, Holi and many other. It is a very healthy and nutritious Indian sweet dish. This sweet is one of the traditional dish that is being made since ages. All the ingredients used for the preparation of this sweet are considered to be healthy. This is a famous Andhra delicacy made with pure ghee. The traditional recipe of Urad Dal Ladoo calls for ingredients Urad Dal, Ghee, Dry fruits and Sugar.

It is extensively utilized in various culinary preparations such as Dosa, Papad and Vada. Boiled dal tastes delicious when prepared with fried tomato, garlic and onion.

In ancient India, Ghee was the preferred cooking oil.  Ayurveda has traditionally considered ghee to be the healthiest source of edible fat, with many beneficial properties. Ghee, also known as clarified butter or anhydrous milk fat, is prepared by heating butter or cream to just over 100°C to remove water content by boiling and evaporation, then filtering out the precipitated milk solids. 

Cooking Tips:

  • Do not add sugar when the dal mixture is hot. Sugar will melt and can’t make round Ladoos.
  • Milk can be used to make balls, but must be consumed immediately.

  • Urad dal is protein rich and gives strength to the back bone.
  • Urad dal is one of the richest source of Vitamin B. Urad dal is also good for women as it has iron, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, potassium which makes it a healthy pulse.
  • Ghee Contains Butyrate, an Essential Short-Chain Fatty Acid.
  • Dry fruits are anticancer militant.
