Haryana is also one of the most economically developed regions in South Asia, and its agricultural and manufacturing industries have experienced sustained growth since the 1970s/Haryana has withstood many tyrannical tirades from other lands that came to pilfer and loot. Despite this, the people of Haryana have a joie de vivre in their attitude and celebrations that are unmatched. Being an agricultural community, their festivals are linked to sowing and reaping of the crop. The women assist the men folk by tending to the cattle and helping on the farms. The head of the village is usually an elder and his diktat is implemented by the younger generation. As elsewhere in India, the joint family still holds sway and the younger lot look up to their elders for guidance and advice.
