Chinese Fried Rice

Chinese fried rice is a very popularly served in many parts of the world and can be found at nearly any Chinese restaurant or buffet. Generally an excellent fried rice calls for rice cooked a day before as it would get slightly dry and won’t be sticky. As such fried rice is a quintessential comfort food that is fast to prepare and can be carried easily. That’s why no wonder fried rice is one of the world’s most popular rice based dishes. You can give different variation for the fried rice by adding some meat pieces, vegetables or both mixed and make it as per your taste and choice.

A major part in making the Chinese fried rice is adding the ingredients to your taste. When making any variety of fried rice, do not use freshly cooked rice (if you do so, it will have a sticky mess); instead use left over cooked rice that is at least a days old. Chinese fried rice is a very simple and easy recipe. This dish is made with cooked basmati rice, beans, carrots, ajinomoto, green chilies, pepper, soya sauce and spring onions.

This is a perfect dish for any evening when you are really stressed and tired of preparing a full meal. And this would also help clearing all the old stuff from your refrigerator if you want to get rid of the leftover vegetables or meat. The exact origin of making the fried rice is lost to history but is believed that it was invented sometime during the Sui dynasty (589618 AD), in the city of Yangzhou in eastern Jiangsu province.

Yangchow (Yangzhou) Fried Rice is still the standard by which all other Chinese fried rice dishes are judged: morsels of fluffy rice tossed with roast pork, prawns, scallions and peas. In American-Chinese restaurants you’ll sometimes find it called "special fried rice." Today, fried rice dishes are found throughout China, particularly in the south, where rice is the staple grain.

Chinese fried rice is an excellent dish which can be served either as a main dish or side dish. Simple fried rice, without any meat or seafood, makes a nice substitute for plain cooked rice at an evening meal. At Chinese banquets, fried rice is frequently served at the conclusion of the main meal, before the dessert course. Generally for cooking the fried rice they use the long grain rice (basmati) as it comes out fluffier and is less sticky than the other types of rice and is perfect for fried rice dishes.

There are a number of fried rice that one can prepare to relish which includes the egg fried rice, shrimp fried rice, kimchi fried rice, chicken fried rice, vegetable fried rice, chilli fried rice and so on… perhaps the recipe of cooking the rice is the same while one needs to just add the ingredients that they wish to eat. One of the secrets of fried rice is that the ingredients are cooked separately helping them maintain their distinct flavors and then combine in the final stages of cooking.

To prepare this delicious and scrumptious Chinese fried rice, firstly wash and cook the basmati rice separately with little salt. Cut carrots, bean, spring onions and green chillies into very tiny pieces and boil them separately with little salt. Take little oil in a sauce pan and heat it. When it is quite hot, put boiled vegetables into it and fry them for 6-7 minutes. Add little China salt (ajinomoto), soya sauce to veggies and cook for 1 minute. Add basmati rice and mix well and fry for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add 1 tsp of pepper powder at the end and mix well. In spite of being a high starch content, the is amazingly delicious, appetizing and colorful. It is said that a cupful of simple fried rice has about 822 mg of sodium which provides about 34.25% of the total sodium.

Sodium helps the body by regulating blood pressure, stimulating the adrenal glands, relieving the body from cramps, diarrhea and dehydration and most importantly maintains fluid balance in the body.
