Ingredients used in OATS VEGETABLE KHICHDI - HORLICKS OATS
• Butter(cubes) - 2 cups.
• Cumin seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
• Ginger(finely chopped) - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Green chillies(chopped) - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Carrots(chopped) - 1/2 cup.
• French beans(chopped) - 1/4 cup.
• Onions(chopped) - 1/4 cup.
• Split green gram or moong dal(soaked) - 1/2 cup.
• Water - as required.
• Salt - to taste.
• Pepper - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Oats - 1 cup.
Method:
  • Heat butter in a pan, add cumin seeds and saute it.

  • Now, add curry leaves and let it splutter.

  • Then add chopped ginger, green chillies, carrot, onions, beans in the same pan and mix well.

  • Add split green gram along with 1 cup of water in it and let it cook for about 3 minutes with closed lid.

  • Once vegetables are cooked, add oats and mix it well.

    Delicious Oats Vegetable Khichdi is ready to serve with cucumber and coriander raitha or any pickle.

OATS VEGETABLE KHICHDI best in the world Oats Vegetable Khichdi is a delicious Indian recipe especially prepared for breakfast. It is a very healthy and wholesome dish to start the day. The fragrance of this dish is highly aromatic full of zest and the mild spices from freshly crushed black pepper corns and cumin seeds make this dish truly delicious and irresistible! Oats Vegetable Khichdi is a very similar preparation to the Khichadi prepared in north India but made with few variations and method of cooking to suit the regional taste.

 

 OATS VEGETABLE KHICHDI

 

This dish is a complete wholesome, nutritious stomach filling meal. It tastes good with cucumber raita and any pickle.  It is mildly spices, highly nutritious, easily digestible and fat free except for the little oil added to that to enhance the flavours and taste. People on diet or on low fat diet can avoid the oil. Oats is considered one of the healthiest foods. It is a species of cereal grain suitable for human consumption as oatmeal or rolled oats. Oats have a varied uses in foods commonly used for making porridge, upma, cookies, oatcakes, parathas etc.

 

Oats are also used in many cold cereals in particular muesli and granola. Oats are low in fat, easily digestible and have been recently discovered as having healthy cholesterol lowering properties. Now over a past few decades, oats have become a very popular healthy food and are used as a regular breakfast cereal. Oats are loaded with dietary fiber than other grains. Oats provide you with a number of benefits whether cooked or creamy or blended with fresh fruits added in a smoothie. This makes a very nutritious and healthy breakfast food and a brilliant way to add in that extra fiber and nutrients to your body to keep your body going fit and strong.

 

There are many variations that can be made to prepare this Khichdi. Often made with rice and dal which are cooked together until mashy and then tempered with freshly ground black pepper and jeera are added toward the end and mixed thoroughly. However cooked, the texture, taste and appearance are the vital factors to tempt our taste buds in eating this flavourful dish. With all happiness of making this super appetizing breakfast, one will surely pep up with loads of energy to kick start the day with a pleasure feeling. Loaded with oats, lentil, and veggies, the dish is not only healthy but also luscious and pleasantly satiating.

 

Do try this dish and you can also customize the seasoning according to your taste. The dish gets its zing from the curry leaves, heat from freshly ground black pepper and warmth from cumin seeds.

Recipe of Oats Vegetable Khichdi:  

Ingredients:

 Butter, cubes                                                        -        2 nos

Cumin seeds                                                        -        ½ tsp

Curry leaves                                                         -        1 sprig

Ginger, finely chopped                                     -        ½ tsp

Green chillies, finely chopped                       -        ½ tsp

Carrots, chopped                                               -        ½ cup

French beans, chopped                                   -        ¼ cup

Onions, chopped                                               -        ¼ cup

Split green gram or Moong Dal, soaked     -        ½ cup

Water                                                                    -        as required

Salt                                                                        -        to taste

Pepper                                                                  -        ½ tsp

Oats                                                                      -        1 cup 

Directions:

  1. Heat a pan, add butter, cumin seeds and sauté. Add curry leaves and once they splutter, add ginger, green chillies and sauté well.
  2. Add carrots, French beans, onions and sauté. Later add split green gram (soaked in water) along with water, and salt.
  3. Over the pan with a lid and cook for few minutes.
  4. Crush pepper in a pestle and add it into the pan. Cook again with the lid on.
  5. One the dal and vegetables are cooked, add oats and mix. Later switch off the flame.
  6. Serve Oats Vegetable Khichdi with cucumber raita or any pickle.
