STEAMED CABBAGE CHUTNEY

Ingredients used in STEAMED CABBAGE CHUTNEY
• Cabbage (chopped) - 1 cup.
• Green chillies - 5 numbers.
• Coriander leaves - 1 bunch.
• Garlic - 7 cloves.
• Coconut paste - ½ cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Lime juice - 1 number.
• Ginger(chopped) - 1 piece.
• Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon.
• Sugar - 1 tea spoon.
Method:
  • In a steamer add green chilies, coriander leaves, garlic, cabbage put the lid on and let it steam for 8-10 minutes.
  • Transfer this into a blender and add coconut paste, salt, lime juice, ginger make it into a coarse paste.
  • In this add sugar, roasted sesame seeds mix it well.

Serve with roti, naan or rice.

A spicy fast to prepare chutney made with cabbage. Steamed Cabbage Chutney is an awesome easy to cook chutney that tastes extremely good with any type of Indian flat bread, rice etc. This delicious steam cooked chutney is made with combining cabbage, green chillies, coriander leaves, garlic together and steam cooking them for few minutes. They are then added with fresh grated coconut, ginger pieces, and blended to coarse paste.

 

The chutney is a pleasant mix of varied flavors, slightly sweet, tanginess form lime juice; sesame seeds give a nutty and crunchiness on bite. This chutney is just refreshing and a very comforting food to eat. Steamed cabbage chutney has subtle flavors, mildly spiced yet yummy, appetizing and is finger-licking. Steamed Cabbage chutney is yummy crunchy added with roasted sesame seeds with tantalizing flavour and a little extra crunch and nutty flavour to taste. It’s delectable chutney with a variety of taste and textures. Cilantro (coriander leaves) is a very refreshing and aromatic herb that give a remarkable freshness to this chutney.

Recipe: Steamed Cabbage Chutney

Ingredients:

  1. Cabbage, chopped                -       1 cup
  2. Green chilli                            -       3-4 nos
  3. Coriander                               -       1 bunch
  4. Garlic                                      -       4-5 nos
  5. Fresh Coconut, grated        -       ½ cup
  6. Salt                                          -       to taste
  7. Ginger, chopped                   -       1 pieces
  8. Lime juice                              -       1 no
  9. Sesame seeds                        -       1 tbsp

Directions:

  1. In a steamer, add green chillies, coriander, garlic, chopped cabbage, cover the steamer with a lid and steam cook for 8-10 minutes.
  2. Transfer the steam cooked ingredients into a blender jar. Add freshly grated coconut, salt, lime juice, chopped ginger and grind to coarse paste.
  3. Transfer the mixture in a bowl, add little sugar, roasted sesame seeds and mix well.
  4. Serve with roti, naan, or rice.

 

Cabbage is packed with vitamins A, E, C and B. It is said to boost the immune system's ability to produce antibodies, and also plays an important role in preventing infections. Cabbage is rich in vitamin C, an important antioxidant that helps fight various bacterial and viral infections such as the common cold, ear infections, and bronchitis. It also supports the immune system and plays a critical role in preventing osteoporosis by reducing menopausal bone-loss.

 

Raw cabbage juice is considered to be very effective in curing constipation. Steam cooking is one of the fantastic and healthy methods of cooking which is used thousands of years. This way of cooking was generally used by the Chinese, Indian, Africans and now is done all over the world. It is one of the healthiest methods of preparing food to retain all the nutritional values intact. Steam cooking retains the original color, taste, shape and juices of the food.

Dear Chef, we can't get fresh coconut from our shops. We have dried coconut powder though, is it ok to use as it is or should it be soaked or somehow prepared before??
