Upma is generally made with rawa but at times when we feel like making some good difference to our upma we can try it with rice flour which tastes awesome.

Upma, uppumavu or uppittu is a common South Indian, Maharashtrian, and Sri Lankan Tamil breakfast dish, cooked as a thick porridge from dry roasted semolina or coarse rice flour.

Rice Flour Dry Upma Uppudu Pindi

Ingredients used in Rice Flour Dry Upma Uppudu Pindi
• Rice flour - 1 cup.
• Urad dal - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Chana dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Peanuts - 1 tea spoon.
• Ginger - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Green chilies (slitted) - 3 numbers.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Onion - 2 numbers.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Dry red chilies - 2 numbers.
• Water - 1/2 cup.
• Ghee - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
• Oil - as required.
Method:
  • Take a bowl, add rice flour, ghee and mix it well. Keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add red chilies, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chana dal, peanuts and saute it well for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Then add chopped ginger, green chili, curry leaves, onion, salt, water (half cup).
  • Once come to boil add rice flour, reduce the flame and cook it on a slow flame for 5-7 minutes.
  • When it gets fully crumbled and dry then switch off the flame.

Serve it with any pickle or chutney.

It appears crumbly only because the amount of water added is not sufficient to make it lumpy.

thank you so much i always wanted to know how to make uppudu bpindi witch i enjoyed when i was young, but never knew how to make it,if we are supposed use rice ravva or idli ravva because plain rice ravva is not available in USA i guess,but i was n

eewww this is NOT at all how this has to be made. You dont use the finely milled rice flour but coarsely ground semi wet rice. And onions are not added at all
