Ingredients used in BOTTLE GOURD AND MOONG DAL KOOTU
• Chana dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Coriander seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Red chillies - 4 numbers.
• Oil - 4 tablespoons.
• Sesame seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Fresh coconut(piece) - 1/2 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Bottle gourd pieces - 1 cup.
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Moong dal - 1/2 cup.
• Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Asafoetida - 1 pinch.
• Green chillies - 1-2 numbers.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
• Onions(optional) - 1 number.
Method:
  • In a pan add chana dal, coriander seeds, red chillies, little oil and saute it. To it add sesame seeds, fresh coconut and saute it, switch off flame and transfer into blender.
  • In another pan add water, salt, bottle gourd pieces, turmeric powder and place lid and cook for 7 minutes.
  • To it add sprouted moong dal and cook it and place lid and cook for 6 minutess.
  • Now add smooth paste, little water and mix nicely later cook it.
  • Heat oil in another pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafetida, green chillies, curry leaves, onions and saute it.
  • Add this tempering to bottle gourd pan and mix nicely.

Now bottle gourd kootu is ready to serve.
