Ingredients used in Kalyana Sambar
• Split dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Hing - pinch.
• Turmeric powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Oil - as required.
• Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Dry red chilies - 2 number.
• Curry leaves - 3 spring.
• Onions ( chopped ) - 1 number.
• Pumpkin ( chopped ) - 1/4 cup.
• Cucumber ( chopped ) - 1/4 cup.
• Mango ( chopped ) - 1/4 cup.
• Brinjal ( chopped ) - 1/4 cup.
• Tomatoes ( chopped ) - 1 number.
• Chili powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Coriander powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Sambar powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Tamarind juice - half cup.
Method:
  • Pressure cook split dal along with Hing, turmeric powder till 3 whistles.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry red chilies, curry leaves, chopped onion, pumpkin, cucumber and mix it well.
  • Then add chopped mango pieces, brinjal, and cook it for about 3-4 minutes.
  • In the same pan, add chopped tomatoes, chili powder, coriander powder, sambar powder, tamarind juice and let it boil for about 10 minutes.
  • Now add boiled dal to it and cook it well.
  • Then season with salt and serve it hot with rice.
