Ingredients used in YAM IN TAMARIND GRAVY
• Fresh grated coconut - 1/2 cup.
• Garlic - 5 cloves.
• Oil - 2 tablespoons.
• Yam pieces(boiled in salt and turmeric) - 250 grams.
• Salt - to taste.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Onion(chopped) - 1 number.
• Turmeric powder - 1 pinch.
• Tomato(chopped) - 1 cup.
• Red chili powder - 1/2 tablespoon.
• Coriander powder - 1/2 tablespoon.
• Tamarind juice - 1/2 cup.
• Sugar - 1 tablespoon.
• Coriander leaves(chopped) - 1 tablespoon.
Method:
  • First take Fresh Grated coconut in a blender then add garlic cloves and make it in a fine paste.
  • Now heat a pan and add some oil then add all the boiled yam pieces in it and saute it. Add pinch of chili powder in it and toss it, then transfer it in a bowl.
  • In the same oil add mustard seeds and when they crackle add some fenugreek seeds.
  • Also add chopped onions and cook it for a while. Now add the coconut paste in it. Mix it properly and add turmeric, chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder, tamarind juice and water. Mix it well and put the lid on and let it cook for few minutes.
  • After the gravy gets thicken add sugar, fried yam. Then after few minutes garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.

Now just switch off the flame and after resting period of 5 minutes serve this with rice.
