Korralu Chakkara Pongal

Ingredients used in Korralu Chakkara Pongal
• Moong dal - 1/4 cup.
• Water - as required.
• Ghee - 1 tablespoon.
• Cashew nut - 5-8 numbers.
• Raisins - 5-8 numbers.
• Milk - 1 cup.
• Foxtail millet - 1/4 cup.
• Jaggery - 1/2 cup.
• Cardamom powder - 1 tea spoon.
Method:
  • Soak moong dal in water for 30 minutes.
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add cashew nut, raisins and saute it.
  • Add moong dal and saute it, add milk, water then cook until dal is soft.
  • Add foxtail millet and cook it for 3-4 minutes, add jaggery water and cook it for 3-4 minutes.
  • At last, add cardamom powder and mix nicely.

Now korralu chakkara Pongal is ready to serve.

The term khara pongal commonly identifies spicy pongal, and is a very common breakfast meal in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The rice boiled with milk and jaggery while in the Pongal festival is known as Chakkara pongal.

Khara pongal also is a healthy breakfast on hectic morning and come quite convenient as an easy option. All it requires is pressure cooking rice and dals and flavoring with delicious spices like cumin and pepper.
