Ingredients used in Khichada
• Peanuts(in place of shrimp)-preferably with cover - 1/4 pound.
• Shrimp (can be substituted with peanuts) - 1/2 pound.
• Garam masala/meat masala powder - 2-3 teaspoons.
• Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoons.
• Red chilli powder - to taste.
• Garlic - 5 clove.
• Ginger - 1 piece.
• Green chilies - 3 numbers.
• Coriander powder - 2 teaspoons.
• Jeera powder(cumin) - 3 teaspoons.
• Tomato finely chopped - 1 numbers.
• Onions finely chopped - 2 numbers.
• Toor daal - 3/4 cup.
• Masoor daal (red lentil) - 1 and 1/2 cup.
• Rice - 1/2 cup.
• Whole wheat - 1/2 cup.
• Coriander leaves(cilantro) - 1 bunch.
Method:
Soak the toor daal,massor daal, rice and wheat overnight in water.If using peanuts soak them too.Pressure cook till one whistle.Apply salt, chilli powder and termeric powder to shrimp.Grind together green chillies,garlic,ginger and coriander leaveswith little water.In a pan add oil.Saute onion till golden brown.Add tomato.When soft add coriander and cumin powder along with garam masal.When oil starts oozing add shrimp.If not using shrimp add chilli powder and termeric now..When well cooked add thecooked lentils.Season with salt to taste.Serve hot afetr adding lemon juice.This dosh can be had on its own or as an accompaniment.
