Ingredients used in MALIDA LADDU
• Chapati pieces - 1 cup.
• Cashew nuts - 10 numbers.
• Pistachio - 10 numbers.
• Badam - 10 numbers.
• Fennel powder - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Cardamom powder - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Dates (chopped) - 6 numbers.
• Jaggery - 1 cup.
• Ghee - as required.
Method:
  • Knead the dough just like chapati, keep it a side for a 15 minutes, then divide the portions and roll it with the help of rolling pin.
  • Cook the chapati by adding ghee on both sides.
  • Now grind these chapatis in a blender to make a coarse powder.
  • In a mixing bowl add blended chapati mixture and add nuts powder (cashew nuts, pistachio, badam) chopped dates, fennel powder, cardamom powder, grated jaggery, ghee mix it well and make laddus.

It is an Telangana classical sweet dish, combination of chapati and Jaggery turns in to a wonderful laddu. Malida Laddu, commonly known as Malidalu is a classic Telangana sweet dish which is a combination of chapatti, jaggery and dry fruits mixed together and made into a wonderful laddu. This sweet delicacy is extremely flavorful, rich to taste. A brilliant way of using leftover chapattis! Chapati is popular Indian flat bread made of Wheat flour. It is the staple food in most North Asian countries especially North India and Pakistan. A chapatti can be made with various other flours too like the jowar (jowari ki roti), bajra (bajre ki roti), ragi, soya etc.

 

Wheat flour is rich in calcium, iron, fiber and other minerals. When added to other flours, it has high amounts of proteins and fiber. Malida laddu is an unique amalgamation of combining chapattis that are ground into coarse powder with grated jaggery and mix of cashew nuts, pistachios, badam powder that adds a superlicious crunch and nutty flavor to this sweet. This laddu is flavored with fennel and cardamom powder that offers an awesome aroma and taste. Overall, malida laddu is exceptionally yummy, appetizing and nutritionally benefitting. It is one of the best ways to feed the kids with these types of food items.

Recipe:  Malida Laddu

Ingredients:

  1. Chapati pieces                         -       1 cup
  2. Cashew nuts                            -       10 gms
  3. Pistachios                                -       10 gms
  4. Badam                                       -       10 gms
  5. Fennel powder                        -       ½ tsp
  6. Cardamom powder                -       ½ tsp
  7. Dates, chopped                       -       6 nos
  8. Jaggery                                     -       1 cup
  9. Ghee                                          -       2 tbsp

 

  1. To make chapatti: Knead the dough just like chapatti and keep aside for 15 minutes. Divide into small portions and roll the dough with help of rolling pin. Cook the chapatti by adding ghee on both sides.
  2. Grind the chapatti in the blender into coarse powder.
  3. Take a mixing bowl, add chapatti mixture, nuts powder (cashew nuts, pistachios, badam, chopped dates, fennel powder, cardamom powder, grated jaggery and ghee.
  4. Mix all ingredients well and make into laddus.

Kids generally hate eating chapatti or often with a chapatti you have to prepare a curry or dal etc, making a delicious laddu with chapatti is an awesome variation in taste and delight to the kids to keep healthy and enjoy the new flavors. Often you are advised by the Dieticians etc to have a handful of dry fruits as they have lots of health benefits that most of us are unaware of. Kids love eating cashew nuts and it provides protein and fiber to body.

 

Cashews have no cholesterol and contain healthy monounsaturated fats that promotes good cardiovascular health Pistachios are awesome definitely yummy nuts that are often added in ice-creams, halwa or pedas etc. They contain a wide variety of nutritents called carotenoids that are beneficial to eye health. They are rich in fiber which helps people feel full for longer time. Dates are a popular dry fruit having natural sweetness.
