Rice upma is a very popular breakfast item in most of the south Indian homes especially in the state Tamil Nadu. It is commonly known as Arisi.
- Wash Rice, pat dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Then grind the rice in a mixer till the rice is broken into halves. It should not be ground very fine. It has to be coarse powder.
- Wash Moong dal and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pressure pan (for tadka), add mustard seeds, chana Dal, urad Dal, green chillies, curry leaves, asafoetida and saute it.
- Then add pepper powder, grated coconut, cashew nuts, rice, moong dal along with water and salt.
- Now pressure cook as you do for your rice or cook till the rice is done.
- At last,mix it once and serve it with coconut chutney or sambar.
