A traditional Indian Sweet especially prepared during festivals Poha Ladoo is one of the most simple and easiest sweet recipes that can be prepared in few minutes. This ladoo is generally prepared during Janmashtami (Krishna Jayanthi) or Gokulashtami festival. Poha Ladoo is amalgamation of roasted flattened rice, dry fruits, khoya , ghee and sweetened with condensed milk. Ladoo or Laddu is a very popular delicious mouth watering round shaped Indian sweet delicacy that is often prepared during festivals or any special occasion or religious functions at home. You can make a variety of ladoos using different ingredients. Some of the popularly prepared ladoos are Boondi laddu, Sunnundallu, Rava Ladoo, Besan Ladoo, Til Ladoo etc.
Recipe: Poha Ladoo
Ingredients:
Directions:
Here talking about Poha Ladoo, this is made of flattened rice which is commonly known as beaten rice or poha or atukullu or chinde or chira or chudaa or chudwey or Aval or avalakki or Pauaa in different languages all over India. Poha is one of the fantastic ingredients that can be used for make sweet or savory dishes. Poha is used for preparing a variety of breakfast or brunch dishes in western India. It is very easy to cook and nutritious to eat.
The flattened rice is dehusked rice which is flattened into flat light dry flakes. These flakes of rice swell when added into liquid whether hot or cold. They absorb the moisture and become soft. A variety of Poha are available in the market in different sizes. The thickness of these flakes varies between almost translucently thin to nearly four times thicker than a normal rice grain. Poha Ladoo is easily made with coarsely ground roasted poha added to dry fruits, ground nut powder, grated coconut, khoya, condensed milk and ghee.
All ingredients are mixed well together and made into small round shaped balls. This ladoo can be stored in airtight containers for few days. Made with Poha and dry fruits this ladoo is a very healthy dish that provides warmth to the body and best eaten during winters. Dry fruits are considered to be exceptional essential nutrient and beneficial to health. They are often added to a number of Indian sweets to enhance the flavor and give richness in taste.
Poha is a simple ingredient that is easily digestible and is good source of complex carbohydrates which provide energy and also is high in fibre and rich in protein. It is lactose, fat free, heart healthy and good source of 11 essential vitamins and minerals including iron. Ghee or clarified butter is another super ingredient that adds an intense richness and tang added to any dish be it sweet or savory. It is rich in iron and extensively used in preparing various ayurvedic preparations for medicinal uses.
Ghee or clarified is devoid of hydrogenated oils and is preferred over butter for its health benefits. Do try this recipe that just melts down tickling your taste buds. Nice recipe Ragini. One important suggestion, please wash your hands when you keep in mouth. It won't be hygienic, you keep fingers in mouth and touch everything without washing.?
