Oats Curd is a healthy and nutritious food Oats curd is a very simple to prepare South Indian comfort food that is low in calories, filling and a quick meal to enjoy. This is a perfect meal for Breakfast for all its goodness and flavors it provides. Oats combined with curd and mild seasoning over makes this dish a bliss to the palate. Curd or yogurt is a very popular dairy product produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. The bacteria used to make yoghurt are known as “yoghurt cultures”. Fermentation of lactose by these bacteria produces lactic acid, which acts on milk protein to give yoghurt its texture and its characteristic tang. Lassi is another popular yoghurt based beverage originally from the Indian subcontinent that is usually slightly salty or sweet. Lassi is a staple of Punjab and is also available in different flavors.


Recipe: Oats Curd



Ingredients:



  1. Milk                                   -        ½  litre

  2. Oats                                   -        1 cup

  3. Onions, chopped            -        1 no

  4. Curd Starter                    -        1 tbsp

  5. Oil                                     -        1 tbsp

  6. Dry red chilli                   -        1 no

  7. Mustard                           -        ¼ tsp

  8. Cumin seeds                   -        ¼ tsp

  9. Chana dal                        -        ¼ tsp

  10. Urad dal                          -        ¼ tsp

  11. Curry leaves                    -        1 sprig


Directions:



  1. Dice onions and separate layers and keep aside.

  2. Boil milk in a pan, add oats, mix well and switch off the flame.

  3. Transfer the oats mixture into a bowl and keep aside until it comes to room temperature.

  4. In the bowl, add onions, curd starter, mix well and leave it for 3-4 hours.

  5. For tempering the Oats Curd, heat little oil in a pan, add dry red chillies, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves and sauté well.

  6. Add the tempering to Oats Curd mixture and mix well.

  7. The Oats curd is ready to serve.


Curd plays a vital role in every household kitchen. There are three types of yogurt: regular (whole milk), low-fat and skim.
