Stuffed cabbage rolls is a Chinese recipe made with any vegetarian or non-vegetarian stuffing filled into the Chinese cabbage leaf and steam cooked until done. It is one of the best comfort food for all ages. It has a nice crunch from the cabbage on bite and soft and juicy inside mixed with delectable flavours wrapped into the steamed cabbage roll. This is a fantastic healthy and nutritious dish.

Cabbage roll is a common dish to the ethnic cuisines of the Balkans, Central, Northern and Eastern Europe. It is also a common dish as well in the Middle East. A cabbage roll is also known as stuffed cabbage or pigs in a blanket. You can stuff a variety of variations in the cabbage roll according to your taste. In Europe, the filling is traditionally meat based seasoned with garlic, onion and spices. Other ingredients like rice, barley, eggs, mushrooms and vegetables are also included.

In Asia, sea-foods, tofu and mushrooms are often used in stuffing. Chinese cabbage is often used as a wrapping. Boiled cabbage leaves are stuffed with the filling and later baked or steamed in a covered pot and eaten warm accompanied with a sauce. The sauce generally varies by cuisine. Cabbage is widely used in most Indian dishes. It is commonly known as Patta gobhi or Band gobhi in India. It is a very integral part of Indian cooking & usually used to prepare salad, soups, pickles, curries, kootus, added to dals and cooked with other various vegetables etc.

There are many types of cabbage available in market which is different in colour, their flavours, texture etc. It has been said that cabbage has been cultivated for more than 4,000 years and domesticated for over 2,500 years. Although it is often connected to the Irish, the Celts brought cabbage to Europe from Asia around 600 B.C. Like broccoli, cauliflower, collards and kale, cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable.

Eating different types of cabbagegreen cabbage, red cabbage, Savoy cabbage or bok choyboosts your intake of vitamin C and other important nutrients. If you don't enjoy raw cabbage, you can serve it steamed, boiled or stir-fried. The green cabbage is a milder flavour variety and less fibrous texture, hence cooks softer and faster. It is a rich source of Vitamin K, C & Riboflavin. Cabbage cleans the waste from the stomach and upper bowels which improves digestion and reduces constipation.
