Dali Toi is a very simple tempered dal from the Konkan area. Dali Toi or Daali Thoy is a classic Konkani dish made with cooked lentils (Toor dal) tempered with few Indian spices and fresh herbs.
- Wash toor dal and add a little turmeric powder to it and pressure cook it for 4-5 whistles or till the dal is cooked.
- Once the dal is done, mash it thoroughly and keep aside.
- Heat ghee in a kadai, add dry red chillies, mustard seeds, when the splutters, add chopped ginger, turmeric powder, asafoetida (hing) and curry leaves.
- When it gives a nice aroma, add the dal to the pan and mix. If the dal is too thick, you can adjust the constituency by adding water.
- Add the required amount of salt and let it boil for 4-5 minutes.
- Serve with white rice, a spicy side dish of your choice and pickle.
