Fried Modak Crispy is an awesome sweet dumpling stuffed with sweet filling made of an amalgamation of coconut, cashew nuts, almonds, poppy seeds, sweetened with jaggery and pleasantly flavored with cardamom powder. The outer casing is made of a mix of semolina (suji), wheat flour, maida and dash of salt mixed with ghee that gives a nice crispy texture when air fried. Most of the Indian sweets are deep fried and you all know that eating deep fried food is not considered a healthy option.
Philips Airfryer is a brilliant equipment that uses Rapid Air Technology to cook the kind of meals that would traditionally be dunked in a deep fat fryer. Frying in the airfryer would make the food crispy brown with upto 80% less fat. This makes it oil free and far healthier and nutritious to eat. This modern technology has created a new revolution in most home cooking as it uses very little or no oil as it fries.
Modak, which is also popularly known by various names such as Modhaka, Kozhakkattai or Kudumu is a well-liked sweet dumpling of Lord Ganesh. This is prepared in the Western and Southern states of India especially during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Traditionally there are two variations of making the modak, one – the steaming method and the other, the fried method. The steamed version is eaten hot with ghee, whereas the fried modak is eaten just like a snack.
In southern India, savory modaks are also prepared using lentils and spices in the stuffing. There are few other variations also where they use wheat flour in the outer casing for the fried version modak instead of the rice flour. As per the ritual it is important to prepare the steamed version but most of the kids love the fried version of modaks. Do try preparing the modaks in the air fryer which is an ideal, guilt free and healthy option to eat. Check out the video below and enjoy cooking.
