Ingredients used in FRIED MAKHANA QUICK HOME SNACK
• Ghee - 2 tablespoons.
• Cashewnuts - 1/4 cup.
• Makhana - 1 cup.
• Curry leaves powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Red chilly powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
Method:
  • Take ghee in a hot pan and when it melts add cashew nuts and makhana.
  • Stir it continuously till it gets golden color.
  • Add dry curry leaves powder, red chilly powder and salt.
  • Mix it thoroughly and transfer in a plate.

Fried Makhana Quick Home Snack

Fried Makhana or foxnuts are very good crispy snacks which go excellent during snack time with tea and other snacks. Fried Makhana is yummy and appetizing crispies made with lotus seeds or Foxnut. A very simple and quick to prepare snack that goes extremely good as a tea time snack! The makhana seeds are sauteed with very little ghee in a hot pan until they puff up in size like a popcorn and then sprinkled with little salt and chilli powder, this makes the dish ready to eat.

The crunchy snack that crackles between your teeth when you bite is a very delightful moment to relish the snack. Makhana which is also popularly known as lotus seeds and different other names are phool makhana, foxnuts, gorgon nut, Euryale ferox etc. This is a well known native Asian water plant that is mainly cultivated for its edible seeds. The makhana seeds are just awesome looking almost similar to the popcorns.

The lotus seed are highly nutritious and is considered a fully organic non-cereal food. Geographically, makhana seeds are available in north India especially Bihar state is said to be the hub for Makhana production.

Recipe:  Fried Makhana Quick Home Snack

  1. Makhana                                  -       1 cup
  2. Ghee                                          -       2 tsp
  3. Cashew nuts                           -       ¼ cup
  4. Curry leaves powder             -       1 tsp
  5. Red chilli powder                  -       1 tsp
  6. Salt                                            -       to taste

 

  1. Add ghee in a hot pan and when it melts, add cashew nut (cut into halves) and makhana.
  2. Stir continuously until they turn slightly golden in color.
  3. Add some dry curry leaves powder, red chilli powder and salt.
  4. Mix the spices well and transfer the fried makhana into a plate.
  5. Serve hot and crisp.

Makhana or lotus seeds are widely used in making variety of dishes. These seeds are highly used in terms of nutritional benefits. The makhana or lotus seeds can be added to curries, roasted or fried, tastes good when added in kheer or pulaos. They are added with garbanzo and cooked too.These lotus seeds are low in calories, fat and high in fiber. They are also low in saturated fats, sodium and cholesterol.
