STREET SMART SAMBAR WITH INSTANT DOSA

Ingredients used in STREET SMART SAMBAR WITH INSTANT DOSA
• Oil - 1 tablespoon.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Onions(chopped) - 1/2 cup.
• Chickpea flour - 1 tablespoon.
• Sambar powder - 1 tablespoon.
• Green chillies - 2 numbers.
• Tamarind juice - 1/2 cup.
• Sugar - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
• Dry coconut powder - 1 tablespoon.
• Tomatoes(chopped) - 1/2 cup.
• Kasuri methi - 1 tea spoon.
• Coriander leaves(chopped) - 1 tablespoon.
• Rice - 1 cup.
• Urad dal - 1/2 cup.
• All purpose flour - 1 tablespoon.
Method:
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, onions, chickpea flour, sambar powder and saute it.
  • Add plenty of water, green chilies, tamarind juice and allow it to boil for 7-10 minutes.
  • Add a pinch of sugar, salt, dry coconut powder, tomatoes, toasted Kasuri methi, coriander leaves, some more water and boil it for 3-4 minutes.
  • In a mixie jar add rice, urad dal, salt, sugar and blend into a dosa batter consistency.
  • Transfer into a bowl and add all purpose flour and mix it.
  • Heat tawa and pour one ladleful batter and spread dosa and cook with little oil and cut in the center to make a cone shape.
  • Transfer dosa into serving plate along with sambar in a bowl.

Sambar can be prepared in a number of ways and it is adapted diversely in several states of south India.

 

Sambar recipe is actually a variation of dal recipe in which the dal is combined with different varieties of veggies like drumsticks, lady's finger (okra), bottle gourd, carrots, pumpkin, radish, brinjal (eggplant) etc. Also adding onions and tomatoes together with tamarind pulp to offer some tangy taste to the recipe.

 

Sambar with rice has become the main courses of both formal and daily south Indian food. Also, it is offered with idli, dosa and vada. It's not at all unusual to enjoy sambar rice with appalam
