Snake gourd and chana dal curry is a simple south Indian side dish. Snake gourd and channa dal (lentil) seasoned with aromatic Indian spices.

Chana dal is often cooked with lauki or bottle gourd in India. In this version, I have used snake gourd, equally delicious! It is very simple to make and goes well with rice or rotis.

Chana dal is amongst the well-known lentils used in making a number of dishes in the Indian delicacies. They're also known as Bengal gram or split desi peas. SNAKE GOURD CHANA DAL CURRY

Ingredients used in SNAKE GOURD CHANA DAL CURRY
• Snake gourd(pieces) - 1 cup.
• Chana dal - half cup.
• Oil - 1 tablespoon.
• Mustard seeds - half tea spoon.
• Onions(chopped) - half cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Curry leaves - 1 springs.
• Green chillies - 2 no.
• Ginger garlic paste - half tea spoon.
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Cumin powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Coriander powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Coriander leaves - 1/4 bunch.
Method:
  • Scrape skin of snake gourd and cut into big pieces.
  • Boil chana dal but not mashy and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, onions, salt, curry leaves, green chillies, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder and saute it for 30 seconds.
  • Add snake gourd, cumin powder, coriander powder, little salt and mix it.
  • Place lid and cook it on slow flame for 3-4 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes add chana dal mix and cook for 2 minutes with lid on it.
  • Atlast add coriander leaves and mix nicely and switch off flame.

Now Snake Gourd Chana Dal Curry is ready to serve with pulka.
