RAW PAPAYA TENDER TAMARIND SAMBAR

Ingredients used in RAW PAPAYA TENDER TAMARIND SAMBAR
• Dry red chillies - 3-4 numbers.
• Peppercorns - 1/2 tablespoon.
• Coriander seeds - 1/2 tablespoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Tender tamarind - 1 cup.
• Oil - 3 tablespoons.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Green chillies - 4 numbers.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Asafoetida - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Onion(chopped) - 1/2 cup.
• Raw papaya - 1-1/2 cup.
• Tomato(chopped) - 1/2 cup.
• Salt - to taste.
• Red chili powder - 1/2 tablespoon.
• Sugar - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Coriander leaves(chopped) - 1 tablespoon.
• Toor dal(boiled) - 2 cups.
Method:
  • Take a pan and add dry red chillies, peppercorns, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and dry roast it.
  • Transfer into blender and make powder to it add tender tamarind and make paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, green chillies, curry leaves, turmeric powder, asafoetida, onions, raw papaya and saute it.
  • To it add tomato, salt and saute it, later add water, tamarind mixture paste.
  • To it add red chili powder, boiled dal and boil it, later add sugar boil again.
  • Atlast add coriander leaves and switch off flame.

Now raw papaya tender tamarind sambar is ready to serve.

Sambar can be prepared in a number of ways and it is adapted diversely in several states of south India.

 

Sambar recipe is actually a variation of dal recipe in which the dal is combined with different varieties of veggies like drumsticks, lady's finger (okra), bottle gourd, carrots, pumpkin, radish, brinjal (eggplant) etc. Also adding onions and tomatoes together with tamarind pulp to offer some tangy taste to the recipe.

 

Sambar with rice has become the main courses of both formal and daily south Indian food. Also, it is offered with idli, dosa and vada. It's not at all unusual to enjoy sambar rice with appalam
