MASALA POTATO SAMBAR

Ingredients used in MASALA POTATO SAMBAR
• Toor dal (boiled) - 1 cup.
• Oil - 2 tablespoons.
• Chana dal - 1 tablespoon.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Coriander seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Pepper corns - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Urad dal - 1 tea spoon.
• Asafoetida - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Coconut (grated) - 1/4 cup.
• Green chilies - (4-5) numbers.
• Dry red chilies - (4-5) numbers.
• Mustard seeds - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Tomato(pieces) - 1/2 cup.
• Tamarind juice - 1/2 cup.
• Jaggery - 1 piece.
• Potato(boiled) - (1-2) numbers.
• Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1/4 bunch.
• Onion (sliced) - 1 numbers.
• Salt - to taste.
Method:
  • Heat oil in a pan add chana dal, cumin seeds, red chilies, coriander seeds, pepper corns, urad dal, asafoetida,curry leaves, turmeric powder, saute it for 2 minutes.
  • Then add freshly grated coconut, green chilies, onions, cook this for 3 minutes then let it cool down and make it into a paste.
  • In a hot pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds when they splutter add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chilies, tomato pieces, saute it.
  • To it, add prepared masala paste, roast the masala in oil for 3 minutes then add water, salt put the lid on and bring it to boil.
  • Once this comes to boil, add boiled toor dalboil it by adding tamarind juice, jaggery.
  • After 5 minutes, add boiled potato pieces( up to 90% done), cook for 5 more minutes.
  • At last, add chopped coriander leaves then switch off the flame.

Serve this with Rice and papad.
