Ingredients used in LONG SQUASH CURRY (SORAKAAYA)
• Salt - to taste.
• Turmeric - 1/4 tablespoon.
• Red chilli powder - 1 tablespoon.
• Oil - 6 tablespoons.
• Grated dry coconut - 3 tablespoons.
• Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon.
• Peanuts - 3 tablespoons.
• Channa dal - 1 tablespoon.
• Tomato - 1 small.
• Onions - 1 small.
• Long squash - 500 grams.
• Garlic - 2 cloves.
• Cumin - half tablespoon.
• Mustard seeds - half tablespoon.
• Curry leaves - 10 leaf.
• Coriander - 1 small.
Method:
  • Remove the peel of long squash and cut into small pieces.
  • Finely chop onions and tomatoes and keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard and cumin till they crack out, then add channa dal, when it gets light brown add curry leaves.
  • Add chopped onions when they are light brown add long squash and let it cook for 15 minutes.
  • Mean while roast peanuts and grind (peanuts,coconut,garlic and coriander powder) and keep it aside.
  • After 15 minutes(long squash is cooked) add chopped tomatoes, red chilli powder, turmeric and salt . when they are cooked add water(as you like, if you want too much gravy add more water) and add the grinded powder into it.
  • Let it cook, till the oil starts oozing out.

Switch off the flame and add chopped coriander.

You instruct to put 1 TBSP of chana dal in the recipe. Is that accurate? I can't imagine what 1 TBSP would do to modify such a recipe... otherwise, I'm looking forward to trying it. Already sounds like it will beat the recipe I made today for long
