That is only if they're eaten in excess, though. Even then, it's very rare for people to become ill because of the kernels - several cuisines use them in their dishes and it's no big deal. So as long as people aren't downing them like

Om nom nom ... I'd definitely substitute sour cream for the custard. Also I'd be tempted to add in some cinnamon, cloves and or cardamom. Maybe just a pinch of mixed spice would do it. YOM.
