Bobbatlu, a classic sweet stuffed bread mostly made during festivals. Horse gram bobbatlu are highly nutritional compared to chana dal bobbatlu.

Ulava Bobbatlu is a flat sweet bread made with Jaggery and horse gram (ulava) in Maharastra, Andhra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Goa. It is called as Bobbatlu in Andhra, Holige/Obbattu in Karnataka, Puran Poli/Pooran Poli in Maharashtra and simply Boli in Tamil Nadu.

HORSE GRAM - ULAVA BOBBATLU

Ingredients used in HORSE GRAM - ULAVA BOBBATLU
• Horsegram - 1/2 cup.
• Cardamom powder - 1 pinch.
• Fennel powder - 1 pinch.
• Jaggery - 1/2 cup.
• All purpose flour - 1 cup.
• Salt - 1 pinch.
• Oil - 1 tea spoon.
• Ghee - 2 tablespoons.
• Water - as required.
Method:
  • Boil horse gram in water and remove moisture and transfer into blender, add cardamom powder, fennel powder, jaggery and blend into a paste.Transfer to a plate and divide into small dumpling and make balls.
  • Take a bowl, add all purpose flour, pinch of salt, little oil and mix nicely using water to make a soft dough.
  • Divide dough into portion, apply ghee to hand and make a small roti.
  • Place the ball on top of it and seal edges and make bobbatlu (like parathas) by pressing with finger on ghee applied polythene sheet.
  • Heat little ghee on tawa, place bobbatlu and cook on both sides.

Now Horse Gram Bobbatlu are ready to serve.
