Ingredients used in Cucumber Dal
• Cucumber (chopped) - 1 number.
• Hing (optional) - pinch.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Butter (cubes) - 1 tablespoons.
• Oil - 1 tablespoons.
• Cumin seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Mustard seeds - 1 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
• Turmeric powder - pinch.
• Red chilies - 3 piece.
• Garlic cloves - 4 number.
• Onion (chopped) - 1 number.
• Toor dal - 100 grams.
• Green chilies (finely chopped) - 3 number.
• Tomatoes (chopped) - 2 number.
• Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1 bunch.
Method:
  • Boil toor dal till it is cooked well.
  • In a sauce-pan, heat 2 teaspoons of oil, add broken red chilies to it then add mustard seeds and the cumin seeds,hing, saute it.
  • When the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add garlic, chopped onion, salt, curry leaves, chopped tomatoes and green chilies and cook it well.
  • To it, even add chopped cucumber, cover and let it cook well till the tomatoes and cucumber are tender.
  • Then add the cooked dal to the above pan and mix well.
  • Later, add butter, remove from fire and garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves. Serve it.

I'm glad to find a recipe with cucumber, of which we had an abundance this year. Unfortunately, I had no tomatoes on hand since tomato is not on the list of ingredients. Still, I enjoyed it and will make again.

Sanjay, you can cook toor dal without cucumber and tomato and make it dry with rest of ingredients in butter, drain the water from dal after cooked the way you have cooked, but each piece of dal should remain whole but well-cooked. than make a cu

this is good one ..although I would not like to add water while sauting the cucumbers .. cucumber contains lot of water .. and I THINK adding water at that point of time some how makes the spices effect little dull !! chef , I like your presentati
