Bottle Gourd and Split Green Moong Dal Curry

Ingredients used in Bottle Gourd and Split Green Moong Dal Curry
• Green chilly - 3 numbers.
• Salt - to taste.
• Garlic - 4 cloves.
• Turmeric powder - 1 pinch.
• Curry leaves - 2 springs.
• Onion chopped - 1 number.
• Cumin seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Mustard seeds - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Oil - 2 tablespoons.
• Moong dal - 75 grams.
• Bottle gourd - 250 grams.
• Tomato chopped - 1 number.
• Chilly powder - 1 tablespoon.
Method:
  • First, boil the moong Dal in a pressure cooker, keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, when mustard seeds splutter, add cumin seeds, chopped onions, curry leaves, turmeric powder, chopped garlic, salt, saute it.
  • Add chopped green chilly, chopped bottle gourd, chopped tomatoes, Mix it and put the lid on and cook it till soft.
  • Add chilly powder, salt, Moong Dal, mix it and put the lid on and cook it for few minutes.

A word of caution: overly bitter-tasting Lauki should be discarded and not used for cooking because of a high risk of toxicity linked to high concentration of bitter compounds (cucurbitacins) in it.
