Ingredients used in Bomblachi Kalvan - Bombay Duck Fish
• Turmeric powder - 1/4 tea spoon.
• Green chillies, crushed - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Ginger, crushed - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Garlic cloves, crushed - 1/2 tea spoon.
• Oil - 2 tablespoons.
• Curry leaves - 1 spring.
• Fresh bombay duck fish, cut into two halves - 6-8 piece.
• Coriander leaves, chopped - 1 tea spoon.
• Salt - to taste.
• Red chili powder - 1 tea spoon.
• Garam masala - 1 pinch.
• Tomato puree - 1 number.
• Tamarind juice - 1/2 cup.
Method:
  • Heat oil in a hot pan and add few curry leaves, crushed garlic, ginger and green chillies. Saut until the raw flavour are gone. Reduce the flame.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, tomato puree, mix and cook it.
  • Now add salt, tamarind juice, mix and boil it.
  • Add the fresh Bombay duck or bomli fish pieces, cover and cook over a slow flame for 5-7minutes.
  • Sprinkle some coriander leaves and switch off the flame.

bombil...used to be one of my favourite fishes.......really delicate and a bit slimy, this fish can be eaten along with its bone......thanks chef ..great recipe wish i could buy bombil here.......however i prefer the fried version of this fish.....ok

5-7 minutes? Vah chef if you cook these bombils for 5-7 minutes it will get mashed up.....hardly you need to cook it just for 2-3 minutes?
