Ingredients used in Rasam
• Curry leaves - 1 springs.
• Hing powder - 0.5 teaspoons.
• Ghee - 2 teaspoons.
• Red chillies-whole - 2 piece.
• Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoons.
• Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoons.
• Tamarind- size of lemon - 1 small ball small.
• Turmeric powder - 1 tablespoons.
• Rasam powder- store bought - 2 teaspoons.
• Green chillies sliced - 3 large.
• Ginger sliced in large pieces - 3 large.
• Large ripe tomatoes - 3 large.
• Tur dal soft cooked and mashed - 1 cup.
• Salt to taste - 1.5 tsp to taste.
• Brown sugar - 1 teaspoons.
• Chopped cilantro - 3 tablespoons.
Method:
1. soak tamarind in 1 cup water for 15 minutes and squeeze the tamarind water. 2. Boil the tomatoes in 3 cups of water for 5 minutes. Cool the water, remove the skin and mash the tomatoes with a hand held blender. 3. In a large saucepan, add 1 tsp ghee and add ginger, green chilles and curry leaves. Add the tomato. 4. Add the tamarind water. 5. Add salt, turmeric powder, hing powder, rasam powder. let it boil. 6. Add the cooked tur dal and 1tsp of brown sugar. 7. Remove from stove when about to boil.Add cilantro leaves 8. Add tadka with 1 tsp ghee, mustard seeds, jeera and 1 whole red chilli 9. Tastes best when prepared ahead of time and reheated and served. (ginger and other spices are stronger)

hi, I prepared Ginger rasam exactly as advised. It turned to be an excellent item for my guest. He liked it very much. Also, i made potato fry along with this. The combination is extremely good. I am a novice in cooking and thank to Vahrehvah.
