Recipe of Hyderabadi Kichidi

Ingredient Name Quantity Unit
Cinnamon 1 Stricks
Cardamoms 4 Numbers
Oil 4 Tablespoons
Ginger/garlic Paste 2 Tablespoons
Onions 4 Small
Masoor Dal 300 Grams
Rice 1000 Grams
Shahi Jeera 1 Tablespoons


Mix rice and masoor dal and wash well. Fry sliced onions till they turn golden brown. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until it turns brown. Then add the rice mixture and blend until the entire mixture is coated with oil. Be careful not to break the rice. Add cardamom, cinnamon and jeera. Cook for three minutes and pour water — at least ½ inch above the rice. Add salt according to taste. When the water starts bubbling, lower the flame and put the khichdi on dum for about 25 minutes.
