Ingredients used in Ek Handi Ek Dal Chawal
• Tomato big - 1 number.
• Garam masala - half tablespoon.
• Dhania powder - half tablespoon.
• Bay leaves - 2 number.
• Jeera - half tablespoon.
• Green chillies - 2 number.
• Onion - 1 number.
• Basmati rice - 2 cups.
• Toor daal - half cup.
• Lemon - 1 number.
• Oil - as required.
• Coriander leaves - 1 bunch.
• Mint leaves - half bunch.
Method:
  • Boil Dal with a pinch of Haldi (Do not make it very soft)
  • Strain the water and keep it aside
  • Take Oil in a pan, add jeera, whole garam masala, onion and fry it till onion is transparent.
  • Add green chillies and tomatoes, Saute for 2 or 3 minutes
  • Add the drained dal, Haldi and Coriander powder, salt , Lemon juice. Stir fry for a while then garnish with coriander and mint leaves and keep it aside.
  • Soak rice for 20 minutes
  • Boil rice with salt and Bay leaves , when par boiled , strain the water.
  • Remove half the rice and put a layer of cooked dal over the rice in the vessel and add back the removed rice over the layer of daal.
  • Pour a little Ghee over it and add mint leaves and whole green chillies.
  • Put on dum for 30 to 35 minutesor until done.
